Relaunch creates modern theme park

The "Fossilienwelt Weinviertel" in Stetten (Lower Austria, AT) has undergone extensive modernisation and complete redesign at a cost of around two million euros over the past few months. The official reopening took place on 20 June 2025 by Provincial Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner. "One of the most impressive nature experience museums in our country shines in new splendour and has been brought up to date," said Mikl-Leitner, who also emphasised: "A place has been created here that conveys knowledge in an exciting way and brings natural history to life for young and old alike. Millions of years ago, this area was a tropical sea, and today this place awakens the spirit of discovery and the imagination."

Following its complete relaunch, the adventure park now offers a modern, interactive exhibition and an exciting outdoor area with water fun and play adventures for the whole family. And there are real ‘world sensations’ to marvel at: the world's largest fossil oyster reef, including a multimedia show, the world's largest fossil pearl and the only existing skull of a long-snouted dolphin. The staging plays with this fascinating history: the ‘primeval sea’ entices visitors with water fun, the ‘mangrove forest’ is perfect for climbing, and the ‘giant shark’ offers an adventure landscape for the little ones. And towering above it all is the landmark of the fossil world: the orange tower snail observation tower, with a brand new giant slide.
