Airwalk
Kölnbrein dam – Malta High Alpine Road, Carinthia (AT)
Superlative viewing platform
On Austria's highest masonry dam (200 m) is suspended a viewing platform – the first in the world – which does justice to the superlatives of this dam construction: like a waterfall, the "airwalk" plunges over the edge of the wall into the depths. A break is made in the railing at the top of the dam and visitors climb down to the precipice and a breathtaking perspective. The barrier-free view provides a feeling of space and freedom. Large seat steps are an invitation to linger, enjoy and be amazed, and increase the waterfall character of this modern design, which consciously picks up on the main theme of the Malta valley – the "valley of rushing water" – in its use of shapes.
